About Us

JRE Test builds the benchtop RF shielded test enclosures, filtered I/O interfaces, and antennas that engineers around the world rely on to test wireless devices in a clean, controlled RF environment. When you deal with JRE Test, you are dealing directly with the people who design and build the product — starting with founder and chief engineer John Ramsey, widely credited as the inventor of the modern benchtop RF shielded test enclosure.

Four decades of RF engineering

John Ramsey has spent more than fifty years designing RF and wireless test equipment. He founded Ramsey Electronics, which he led for over 27 years, and is widely credited with developing the first home satellite TV receiver back in 1980. Over the decades he has brought cost-effective solutions to the RF test and wireless markets — from communications service monitors and low-cost RF signal generators to industry-leading RF communications test products. The removable I/O plate system at the heart of every JRE chamber today is his original design, first developed at Ramsey Electronics and refined ever since.

Patented innovation

John holds seven US patents, five of them directly related to RF shielded test enclosures and the filters that make them work:

  • US 9,497,894 — Low Impedance RF Shielded Window
  • US 8,294,044 — Electromagnetic Isolation Chamber with Unimpeded Hand Entry
  • US 5,594,200 — Electromagnetic Isolation Chamber
  • US 10,374,572 B2 — RF Filter with Improved Attenuation of Common Mode Signals
  • US 10,644,670 — RF Filter with Improved Attenuation of Common Mode Signals

The two filter patents are the foundation of JRE's high-speed data filters — a signal-phasing design that cleanly separates SuperSpeed USB, 10G Ethernet, and HDMI data from interfering wireless signals where conventional low-pass filters simply cannot. It is the kind of innovation that comes from solving real testing problems on the bench, not from a marketing department.

Built in our own shop

Nearly everything we sell is fabricated under our own roof in Victor, New York. JRE runs a complete in-house metal fabrication line — a 6 kW fiber laser cutter, press brake, and laser welding — which lets us cut custom hole patterns, build custom I/O plates, and turn around custom modifications faster than competitors who send their sheet metal out to job shops. It also means every chamber and filter is genuinely made in the USA, an increasingly important consideration for defense, cyber, and security customers who need to trust the provenance of what is in their test setup.

Factory-direct, worldwide

JRE sells factory-direct, to anywhere in the world. The configurations our customers need are far too varied to stock at a middleman, and selling direct means every customer gets precise engineering attention and fast, knowledgeable support straight from the people who built the product. We ship daily, worldwide, with excellent freight rates with all the major carriers. JRE's commitment to the benchtop RF test chamber continues with new designs for each new generation of wireless — whether 5G and microwave frequencies or the latest high-speed data interfaces.

A team you can reach

Behind JRE Test is a small, experienced team with more than 60 years of combined experience in RF and manufacturing — and you can actually reach them. John and his engineering team remains hands-on in every aspect of the company, from product design and testing to production oversight, and continues to consult internationally on wireless testing, broadcast electronics, and RF synthesizer design. When a technical question comes up, it gets answered by an engineer who understands your problem, not a script.

When you work with JRE Test, you are working with the original inventor of the modern RF shielded test enclosure and a team dedicated to getting your testing done right.
